Schuurman

Egbert Schuurman (born in 1937 in Borger, The Netherlands) studied civil engineering at Delft University of Technology and philosophy at the Free University of Amsterdam. He received his doctorate in 1972 with a dissertation entitled Techniek and Toekomst: Confrontatie met wijsgerige beschouwingen (English translation: Technology and the Future: A Philosophical Challenge (2009)). From 1964 to 1966 he worked in the area of soil mechanics at Delft University of Technology, and from 1966 to 1984 in the area of cultural philosophy at the Free University of Amsterdam. In 1972, he became special Professor of Christian Philosophy at Eindhoven University of Technology and remained there till 2004. He held the same position from 1974 to 2004 at Delft University of Technology, and from 1984 to 2007 at Wageningen University. From 1983 to 2011, he was the chairman of the ChristenUnie (Christian Union) political party delegation in the First Chamber (Senate) of the Dutch Parliament. In 2003, he was named an Officer in the Order of Orange and Nassau.
